In this post, and am discussing the 27th, 28th, 32nd, and 33rd verses in the Gospel of Thomas. The 27th verse states, "If you do not fast as regards to the world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the father." The 28th verse states: Jesus said, "I took my place in the midst of the world, and I appeared to them in the flesh. I found all of them intoxicated; I found none of them thirsty, and my soul became afflicted for the sons of men because they are blind in their hearts and do not have sight; for empty they came into the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world. But for the moment, they are intoxicated. When they shake off their wine, they will repent."
In this verse, fast means to shut off your senses to the outside world. As most people believe, the Sabbath is the day of rest but not the seventh day of the week. When you have a desire and go within your imagination and see the fulfillment of that desire, you have planted the seed. After you plant the seed, you rest and allow it to grow. When you begin to see the fruits of your labor (what you have done mentally), you witness the father in action.
Jesus and God are one. Jesus is simply the personification of God's power and wisdom. God made man in His image; therefore, he is among us as us in the flesh. Man is intoxicated by the things of this world and not thirsty for psychological truth (water), the word of God. When we become thirsty for the word of God, and we begin to apply the truth of the word, that is symbolized as wine (the application of truth). Repentance is a radical change of attitude.
Verse 32 states: Jesus said, "A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden." Verse 33 states: Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light."
When man builds for himself a city built on a high mountain, which is man's mind, that is God. When he disciplines the mind, the 12 aspects known as the twelve disciples, he cannot fall, and the truth cannot be hidden. In the state of consciousness, the awakened man personified as Jesus Christ is called to preach the gospel. Man is the lampstand, and all who enter into the presence of the awakened man is witness to the light "Jesus Christ."
