In this post I am discussing verse 16 from the Gospel of Thomas. Verse sixteen states, Jesus said, “Men think, perhaps, that it is peace which I have come to cast upon the world. They do not know that it is dissension which I have come to cast upon the earth: fire, sword, and war. For there will be five in a house: three will be against two, and two against three, the father against the son, and the son against the father. And they will stand solitary.”
This dissension that is created when receives and understands the power and the wisdom of God causes conflict. It upsets what we believe to be true about ourselves and the world. A house here can represent a state of consciousness with the five representing the five senses. The discord must occur for us to rise in our level of awareness of who we truly are. The Father represents God and the son (we are all sons of God). When one who receives the spirit, that power and wisdom personified as Jesus Christ, and believes, then they awaken. They stand in solidarity with God, their true self.
