What do you believe? About yourself, your life, circumstances, other people, and the world? Your belief makes it so. I recorded a short YouTube video called Your Belief Makes It So because I was inspired at the moment. I was doing my nightly skincare routine and realized I was about to run out of an expensive moisturizer. For a moment I thought to myself “I don’t want to spend that kind of money, a less expensive brand will work.”
That particular thought begged the question what do you believe? Do I believe more expensive moisturizers work? Well, not necessarily. However, if beliefs harden into fact then I can choose to believe all moisturizers work the same, regardless of price. I realize it may seem like such an insignificant thought. But, think about all of the seemingly insignificant beliefs we have accumulated throughout our life. That is a lot of beliefs that we have formed and carried around out of habit.
So, what do you believe? What beliefs have you been carrying around based on habit? I have a friend who hates Tuesdays. Apparently, nothing ever goes right for him on Tuesday. That is a belief and sure enough, Tuesdays seem to be the worst day of the week for him. When you catch yourself thinking random thoughts, really consider them. Is the thought a belief you have been carrying around and if so, would you like to change it? If the answer is yes, then change it…create a new belief.
By changing beliefs, even the small ones, you can shape your future. If you have a few moments, sit down, and write out some beliefs you have. You might be surprised at what comes up. Maybe you have been carrying around an old belief from childhood you would like to change. We do not need to hold on to old beliefs if they no longer serve us.
